Chelsea midfielder Willian, has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club till 2020. The Brazilian had two years remaining on his previous contract however with the keen desire of new Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte, he will now be at the Bridge till 2020.
Willian had been a target for the former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who wanted to bring the midfielder at Manchester United. Mourinho instead signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borrusia Dortmund.
Willian, 27, joined Chelsea in 2013 when he was signed by Jose Mourinho for £30m from Russian side Anzi Makhachkala. Since then he has won the Premier League and the League cup with the Blues.
Willian was the only ray of inspiration in a dismal season last year for which he was nominated as the player of the season for Chelsea both by fans and players. The Brazilian has won 140 caps for Chelsea since joining and has scored a total of 19 goals.
Willian told Chelsea’s website, “It’s a dream to continue with this club and over the next four years I will try to help the team win more trophies. It’s been an amazing time for me since I joined three years ago. I’ve won titles and last season I was named Chelsea player of the year. I hope to be able to stay at that level during the coming seasons and achieve more success.”
Conte signed Michy Batshuayi last week for a reported fee of £33m. The Belgian striker has a lot of promise and poise. This was Chelsea’s first big signing under Antonio Conte. With players like Hazard, Oscar, Fabregas and Willian staying at the bridge despite a poor season and with reinforcements with new signings, many of which still in the works (Ngolo Kante) it seems the Blues are on track to bouncing back into form under their boss.
