Winner at the Austrian GP, Francesco Bagnaia equals Stoner’s record

MotoGP rider Francesco Bagnaia won three races in a row.

Bagnaia was sensational at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend when Fabio Quartararo disrupted the Ducati podium party at the Red Bull Ring.

The victory was Ducati’s seventh win in nine races at Spielberg.

Moreover, since the Austrian circuit entered the MotoGP calendar in 2016.

Quoted from SportReviews from various sources, Bagnaia is also the second Ducati rider after Casey Stoner to experience three consecutive victories riding the Desmosedici.

The result also saw Ducati win eight times in a single season after 2007.

The Italian rider was not overtaken by his rivals after stealing the race leader position from Enea Bastianini after the first lap.

Five laps before the finish became the battle of Jack Miller, Quartararo and Jorge Martin in the race for two podium places.

At the new chicane corner 2, Quartararo, who had to lose weight in order to get an additional Yamaha top speed on the Ducati “cage” circuit.

He managed to find a gap to overtake Miller for second place after finishing 0.495 seconds behind Bagnaia, according to the official MotoGP website.

Meanwhile, Miller secured a podium place for Ducati after Martin, who was shadowing on the final lap, crashed on the track.

“It was a very long race, I tried to be calmer and more careful because we had a soft front tyre, which was not the best option for me ahead of the finish. But I’m very happy,” Bagnaia said.

Previously, Bagnaia also appeared dominant at Assen and Silverstone.

“When I see the gap, I really want to be constant with my lap time, and I am confident in my speed. In the end I tried to be calmer as they got closer.

“I’m very happy and we’re heading to Misano, can’t wait to get there.”

With that result Bagnaia cut the distance of points from Quartararo who still holds control of the standings with a margin of 44 points.

Aleix Espargaro stays in second place in the standings with a distance of 32 points from Quartararo.

Meanwhile, polesitter Enea Bastianini had to return to the garage and finish the race early because he found a technical problem on his Ducati bike on lap six.

MotoGP reporter Simon Crafar reported that there was a large dent on the front wheel of Bastianini’s motorbike which was probably caused by a loss of tire air pressure.

Luca Marini had his best finish for the VR46 team in P4, ahead of Johann Zarco (Pramac) and Aleix Espargaro.

Espargaro had problems with the holeshot device at the start.

Brad Binder became the leading KTM driver in P7, ahead of Alex Rins (Suzuki) and Marco Bezzecchi (VR46).

Furthermore, the MotoGP event is ready to visit the Misano Circuit in San Marino on 4 September.
