Liverpool successfully defeated Southampton in the 2020-2021 Premier League match. Playing at Anfield on Sunday (9/5/2021) early morning WIB, Liverpool won over Southampton with a score of 2-0.
The victory brought Liverpool up one position to sixth with a collection of 57 points. Now, they are getting closer to the top four, who are six points away from Leicester City in fourth.
First round
The match started, Liverpool immediately took the initiative to attack. However, Southampton also did not remain silent by several times threatening the Liverpool defense.
Even so, until the first 10 minutes, Liverpool still controlled the game. Various opportunities were obtained by Liverpool which almost tore the Southampton net.
However, only in the 31st minute, Liverpool’s patience to score a Southampton goal paid off. Sadio Mane succeeded in breaking into Southampton’s goal, which was actually difficult to penetrate from the start of the match.
However, this time Liverpool managed to complete the opportunity with a goal. Starting from Mohamed Salah’s cross, Mane was finally able to take advantage of it by making a small header against the ball.

The goal was created when Fraser Froster failed to block Mane’s header which was quite difficult for him. The score changed, Liverpool won 1-0.

Entering the second half, Liverpool tried to control the game. Starting from Mane, Salah, and Diogo Jota, taking turns getting opportunities to double their advantage. However, the result is still nil.
In the middle of the second half, Southampton began to appear insistent. The visitors succeeded in attacking the Liverpool defense which this time was quite tough.
This also cannot be separated from Alisson Becker’s slick performance in between the crossbar. Various opportunities that almost resulted in goals were successfully cleared by the Brazilian goalkeeper.
In the 80th minute, Liverpool managed to break through the Southampton goal for the second time. The ball was again scored by Mane. However, the goal was declared invalid because Mane was in an offside position.
However, in the 90th minute, Liverpool’s hopes of doubling their lead became real. Liverpool managed to score the second goal after Thiago Alcantara fired a shot that Froster could not stop. Liverpool winning 2-0.
Until the match ended, Liverpool’s superiority did not change. Jurgen Klopp’s squad secured a 2-0 victory over Southampton.
