Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez scored a great goal as his side cruised to a 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham at Anfield on Sunday.
The visitors started well when Tomás Soucek forced a brilliant save from Alisson with a downward header in the seventh minute, and two minutes later Michail Antonio had the chance to score with a header after receiving Soucek’s cross.
In the 15th minute Liverpool received a penalty after Mohamed Salah was brought down by Nayef Aguerd in the restricted box area.
The striker from Egypt who stepped forward as executioner successfully put the ball through and changed the score to 1-0 in favor of Liverpool.
West Ham still managed to equalize before half-time when Jarrod Bowen scored with a superb low header and scored his fourth goal of the season.
After wasting a number of good chances, Nunez finally scored when he received a beautiful pass from Alexis Mac Allister, which sent the Anfield crowd into cheers.
The goal made things difficult for the Hammers and substitute Diogo Jota was able to score the third goal from Virgil van Dijk’s pass in the 85th minute, four minutes after coming off the bench.
This victory leaves Liverpool in second place in the standings with 16 points, two points behind leaders Manchester City, while West Ham is in seventh place with 10 points.
After trailing in the first few games of the season, Liverpool looked more like their old self in Sunday’s win.
“We worked very hard and everyone can see we have improved a lot from the start and this is the way, and we have to keep working,” said Alexis Mac Allister in a post-match TV interview.
“(It was) a very difficult match. We know them, we know the way they play and we know that they will try hard to defend and try to counterattack. We prepared very well for this match and thank God we won it,” he added.
