Without a Star Player, Japan Immerse Uruguay in ATP Cup

Tennis News : Yoshihito Nishioka and Go Soeda paved the way to victory in the single ATP Cup number, Perth for Japan on Saturday (04/01) local time.

Yoshihito Nishioka played confidently against the 19th-ranked Pablo Cuevas of the Uruguay team and claimed a landslide victory of 6-0, 6-1 in 54 minutes.

“I have to work hard to win every point and this season I am trying to play more aggressively and use my strength. I played well today (04/01) everything works well, “explained Nishioka.

In the first single number match, compatriot Nishioka, Soeda admitted that he felt tense, but got better and managed to beat Martin Cuevas by 6-1, 6-3 in 77 minutes.

“Everything went well, especially in the first set which went very well,” said world 121 ranked tennis player, Soeda.

“But I’m really tense. I have plans to do long rallies, especially in the first set. My target is to return to my best rank, 47th in the world, but the real target is the top 80 or 90th. “

Toshihide Matsu and Ben McLachlan completed Japan’s 3-0 victory with a 7-6 6-4 win over Ariel Behar and Pablo Cuevas in a double number game that lasted 81 minutes.

The men’s team tennis event featuring 24 teams will be held in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney in the January 3-12 period with the quarterfinals to be held in Sydney.

On the other hand, Norwegian men’s single player Casper Ruud saved Norway from defeat in the ATP Cup.

Left behind 0-1 after US tennis player Taylor Fritz won the first singles match, Ruud struggled to secure two match points to claim victory over fellow countryman Fritz, John Isner in the second singles match before descending in doubles with Viktor Durasovic and win it through the tiebreaker round.

Ruud and Durasovic sealed a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory over the US duo, Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, giving Norway a 2-1 lead in Group D.

“I think I fought very hard today (03/01),” exclaimed Ruud. “We are one point adrift of defeat and even if I lost against Isner 7-6 7-6, I wouldn’t think that I made many mistakes.”

“We try to play aggressively in doubles against two outstanding double numbers, but we are reliable single number players and try to win them our own way, one of which is not much coming into the net area. We are very happy to beat the US team. ” Ruud secured two match points on his way to win 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 over Isner in a match that lasted for 2 hours 43 minutes.
