Wolff: 2020 will be demanding and critical

Toto Wolff, Mercedes most successful Team Principal, stressed on the criticality of the season.

The team have to cater two tasks at hand which is establishing their dominance as usual in 2020. Additionally, it have to develop new car according to new regulations which will be enacted from 2021.

The FIA and Formula 1 have not introduced any drastic changes this year. It has helped the team to evolve their 2019 cars directly ready for 2020 using the old data.

The data over the course of similar laws will help the team making most out of it without any extra effort. This will keep the gap between different teams minimal and the team would struggle to establish their dominance throughout the season.

Wolff stated that the team had exploited its W10 which helped to ace the championship last year. But having exploited the W10 leaves no or little room for improvement. W11 would struggle to find any dominance this season.

Wolff was positive however that the efforts in current season to win this year championship would help the team in 2021.

“2020 is an evolution of the current regulations and the gains will be smaller, so you need more time and effort to keep improving your car,” said Wolff. “On the other hand, the 2021 regulations are so very different that you need a lot of time to prepare for them.

“It’s a massive challenge,” said Toto. “We had a lot of regulatory changes in recent years, but this time we’re effectively tackling a two-year project. Trying to get this right will make 2020 the most difficult season, but it is also an amazing opportunity.”

Wolff along with his World Champion Lewis Hamilton have been fan of the team for their dominance in turbo-hybrid era with V6 Engines since 2014. Both have appreciated for relentless and persistent efforts that resulted in their successes.

Wolff added, “This team has shown time and again that it loves being challenged and we will face this one with the same passion and determination that has made Mercedes so strong in recent years.”

Mercedes have unveiled their 2020 car and filmed it at Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton and Valterri Bottas were provided with the opportunity to drive W11 within the limited time allowed by regulations.
