Carlo Ancelotti is certain to leave Real Madrid in June 2024 when his contract expires. The Italian tactician has accepted the proposal of the Brazilian Football Federation, CBF, to handle the Selecao. As a result, Real Madrid’s management had to immediately find a potential replacement for Don Carlo.
The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, and his staff began the guerrilla campaign to quickly find Ancelotti’s successor. There are a number of names associated with the Spanish League giants.
Zinedine Zidane, who has twice been skipper at the Santiago Bernabeu, has again been linked with his former club. There is also the name of the legend of Real Madrid, Raul Gonzalez. The figure who is known as the Prince of the Bernabeu has shown promising performance with Real Madrid Castilla. The former Bayern Munich coach, Julian Nagelsmann, is also on the list of candidates to replace Ancelotti.
But according to Christian Falk in Germany, Xavi Alonso is the strongest candidate. In his narrative to Caught Offside, Christian Falk admitted that the former Liverpool star, who is now coaching Bayer Leverkusen, is at the top of the list of new El Real coaches.
“We believe Xavi Alonso is the first option to replace Carlo Ancelotti in 2024,” he said. “There is also an idea this summer, but the position is very clear. He told Leverkusen he will not leave this summer because he knows he is still new and he is not going to put the club in this situation. But in 2024, there is no reason for Real Madrid to ask him. Of course, he is interested and Leverkusen know that there will be a possibility that Real Madrid will come for him. I think at the moment he is one of the biggest and best solutions to get this job.”
Real Madrid is not a new place for Alonso. He first gained experience in club management with Real Madrid U19 in August 2018. Later, Alonso returned to his boyhood club, Real Sociedad, in July 2019. Alonso put in a good performance as he led the club’s B team to promotion to the Second Division for the first time in 60 years.
Then, Alonso joined Leverkusen in October 2022 when the club was second from bottom in the relegation zone. Again, Alonso worked well so that Leverkusen finished sixth in the Bundesliga and they also penetrated the semifinals of the Europa League. So far, Alonso’s track record in the ranks of management is somewhat impressive. Of course, this fact attracted the attention of Real Madrid, who wanted a coach with a good track record.
