Xavi said Messi wanted to live a quieter life so he decided to move to the United States League (MLS) and join Inter Miami.
As is well known, Lionel Messi was previously widely linked with returning to Barcelona in the summer of 2023 if he did not renew his contract with PSG. However, surprisingly the player nicknamed La Pulga actually joined Inter Miami.
In fact, Lionel Messi admits that he wants to return to Barcelona, which is the club that made his name. However, he wanted to decide his own future and did not want other people to interfere.
As a result, not a few Barcelona supporters were disappointed with Lionel Messi’s decision. Because, they have hoped that La Pulga will return to Camp Nou and continue his career with the Blaugrana -Barcelona’s nickname.
Seeing this, Xavi Hernandez also stepped up and defended Lionel Messi. According to him, the decision made by Messi must be respected because the Argentine superstar wants to live a quieter life and have far less pressure.
“I have seen a change in him over the last few days and weeks. He doesn’t see things clearly and we have to respect that,” Xavi said as quoted by Goal International, Friday (9/6/2023).
“We often don’t put ourselves in other people’s situations, we lack empathy. Being Leo Messi is not easy,” he added.
“He never had peace and had to be perfect in every way. He has seen that he is not having fun and he doesn’t want this kind of pressure, it’s normal,” continued Xavi Hernandez.
Apart from that, Xavi Hernandez also said that he and Lionel Messi had actually spoken to each other about his move to Barcelona. However, the situation does not support La Pulga’s return to Camp Nou. “The joy comes because we both talk, we have talked a lot.
We were all looking forward to it, first for him, then for me and then for the club. But things didn’t go well,” explained the 43-year-old coach.
“He wanted to lower the level of pressure and tension. He wanted a quieter life.” Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has reportedly signed a 2.5-year contract with Inter Miami with an option for a one-year extension. Until now, there is no known certainty regarding when La Pulga will make his debut with David Beckham’s club.
