After Saturday’s 4 – 0 clobbering of Real Sociedad at Camp Nou, Barcelona’s ever rising star Neymar Jr. said he would like to extend his contract at the club, especially after bagging two goals in that same match.
Barca, the current leaders in La Liga, eased to victory over the Eusebio Sacristán lead side, with Neymar and Luis Suarez scoring respectively in the first half, before the young Brazilian came back to net his second with Lionel Messi wrapping things up with one of his own.
This latest display from the Spanish side’s heavyweight attacking trio, just goes to show how great they work together on the field, amidst talks of back door negotiations about a new deal, which could see the rumoured Manchester United target Neymar staying at the club for three more years until 2021.
Neymar’s dad has stood his ground as it regards the ongoing legal and tax controversy around the departed Santos maestro’s contentious move to Barcelona in the 2014 season, saying that all issues need to be resolved and finalized before signing an extension deal. However, the striker himself told reporters after the game on Saturday, that he plans to commit his long-term future to Barca if all goes well.
With two out the trio finding the net early, they spent most of the second half of the Real Sociedad game trying to setup Messi for his first goal of the game and both of them were involved, as the renowned number ten wrapped up the game in allotted injury time, which marks that as the first time this season that the so called Terrible Three have found the net in a single game.
Neymar humbly admitted that seeing game was already won, he was just trying to assist his fellow team-mate to score his first goal since September 20.
“It is true that in the end I was looking for Leo, for him to score,” he said. “Off the pitch, he helps us a lot. I am happy when Suarez and Messi score and they are when I do it.”
As things currently stand, young Neymar is leading La Liga’sPichichi top scorer list with 14 goals, Suarez not far behind on 12 goals, current title holder from Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo at a joint-fourth place with eight goals and Messi further down the list with four, after being absent for two months of the season due to a knee injury.
“I feel good, very happy for all we are doing,” Neymar said. “Our team is playing very well. I want to help my teammates, to keep scoring goals and giving assists. This was a very important victory for us. Things came out well.”
