Facing an opponent with a card mounted from scratch, Yves Ulysse Jr. has proven that he has absolutely no time to lose with this kind of limited boxer.
The Canadian was so thrilled to beat Ernesto Espana by unanimous decision of the judges on Saturday evening at the Center Gervais Auto Shawinigan, in the semifinals of an Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) gala featured Simon Kean and Adam Braidwood.
The three judges handed cards of 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 in favor of Ulysses (16-1), who took the opportunity to take the title FECARBOX super-light weight. This belt should allow him to improve his WBC positioning where he is currently ranked 11th.
Even if he conceded several inches both in size and reach at Espana (25-1-1), Ulysses had no trouble to interfere behind the jab particularly soft Venezuelan. The 29-year-old has placed a particularly high number of rights on the chin of his rival.
Contrary to his habit, former superlight champion went on the attack in the first round to score points, and as Espana did not have the power, the speed and the talent to be respected, the favorite of the crowd did not have to be on guard to avoid any reply.
“He’s tall and I’m small, so I had to go and get him. I reached him with several good shots, but he did not want to know anything. He started how many shots per round? Fifty? It is clear that he did not intend to be easily beaten.” said Ulysses Jr, smiling after his triumph.
“He was by far the best opponent I’ve faced since the beginning of my career and I’m very happy with my performance. His jab did not really touch me and none of his shots really managed to shake me tonight.” he added.

Andranik Grigoryan on the other hand, he was clearly superior to his opponent in all respects, taking the measure of Daniel Olea by unanimous decision, too. Three judges scored the fight 80-72, 80-72 and 80-72 for both boxers.
The Armenian chased the Mexican during the eight rounds of the clash, multiplying the strikes to the head and body to remain undefeated in seven fights in the pros.
