Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has heaped praise on Karim Benzema after he netted two goals in their 3-1 victory over Celta on Saturday night.
“What he has done against Celta has been spectacular, again, and I’m glad. He is a worker and always wants more.” Zidane said.
“I’m happy for him because he’s a hard worker and he always wants more. From the first minute, we all went for it in this game and I think we deserved the victory.” Zidane added.
The French striker opened the scoring with a cool finish from just inside the box after midfielder Toni Kroos had unlocked the Celta defence.
Benzema then went close to creating a second, firing in a cross that bounced off Vinicius Junior’s chest and over the bar, before scoring again himself.
When asked asked about Benzema’s continued exclusion from the France national team and chuckled, Zidane said: “You don’t understand why he isn’t called up. I don’t understand it. Many don’t understand it.
“But, as coach of Real Madrid, it’s better for me. But, what he did today once again was spectacular,” he added.
With his double against the Galicians, Benzema has scored six goals in the last four games, 17 in the league, 23 in total among all competitions and has equaled Santillana as Madrid’s fourth leading scorer in the league with 186 goals.
Madrid will take a break from LaLiga action and a selection of players will represent their respective countries in international action.
“We know the schedule and that we have many matches. The players are good right now and we have to make the most of this.” Zidane said.
“Some are going with their countries and that’s not ideal for me, as coach of Real Madrid, but it is what it is. For now, we just have to enjoy what we did in this game.” the French coach added.
