Zidane on Bale Rumours: “I Want Gareth to Stay Here”

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said Gareth Bale will be staying at the club beyond the winter transfer in January, 2020.

Bale seemed to pick up a calf muscle injury in Wales’ Euro 2020 qualifier against Croatia in October 14 and must be considered a doubt for Champions League match.

Speaking in his conference, Zidane said he will wait and see what’s going to happen with Bale and his national team ahead of their clash with Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“If his national team, his country, called him up it is their right. It is a FIFA international break and there is nothing we can do about it.” Zidane said.

“There are no doubts about it. He’s the one suffering the most. We will see how the week goes and what’s going to happen with his national team, to know if he’s ready or not.” Zidane added.

The 30-year-old forward has played 597 minute so far this season in seven matches in the league and Champions League. And Zidane insists he has no problem with Bale.

“People are saying I don’t want Bale here and I want him to leave in January. That’s nonsense. People can talk about me, about what I do, but no one can put words in my mouth. Fake words,” Zidane said.

“We say, ‘Good morning’ to each other every day. I love all my players. We can’t all have the same close relationship but I’ve never had any problem with Gareth, even when there was talk of him leaving. I’m happy with him.

“You [the media] need to stop always saying the same thing or asking me about him leaving matches early, because I used to do the same. The important thing is that he was with the team before the match and at half-time to support them.

“You look for things that aren’t there. He wants to see the team win, I have no doubts about that. So no, I want Gareth to stay here with us until the end of the season. That’s very clear!” Zidane added.
