Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane thinks it is far too early to talk of a run title race now. Madrid is two points ahead of Barcelona, they secured a narrow 0-1 win at Espanyol, thanks to Karim Benzema great assist and Casemiro’s goal just before half-time.
“I’m not surprised at what Karim does. He is simply a player who inventes things on the ground. But it didn’t make the action any less brilliant. The assumption, the heel ball and the pass are great. It could just be one of the promotions of the season.” Zidane said.
The brilliant assist underlines once again that Benzema is again in excellent shape this season. Last year, the 32-year-old striker already scored thirty times in all competitions after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, now the counter is at 22 goals.
Benzema’s backheel meant the tenth assist of the season of French striker in all competitions, with him after Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez only the third player in Spain who is both in terms of goals and assists in the double figures.
“It was a good action, but the most important thing is that it will be a goal afterwards. Casemiro hits him well. We are happy. My inspiration? This is how I see football. I knew Casemiro was coming out of my back.” Benzema said.
Zidane, however, suggests his team still cannot conduct to turn down in any of their remaining six league matches while insisting that the title race is still far from over.
“I’m not taking notice that we’re winning La Liga. This will be decided on the final day of the season. Look how difficult it was to play against the bottom team. You never know in this league.” Zidane said.
“I’m very happy with my players. Winning game after game isn’t easy, I have to congratulate my players.” Zidane added.
