AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is pleased to hear that Olivier Giroud is going to the San Siro in the summer of 2021. According to Ibrahimovic, the presence of a player like Giroud is very much needed at Milan.
Of course Ibrahimovic’s words are very interesting. He seemed not afraid of his position as Milan’s main striker shifted if the Chelsea player really joined Milan this summer.
Instead of worrying about his position being threatened, Ibrahimovic would actually feel happy if the former Arsenal striker was in Milan. Because according to him, Giroud is a winner who can help Milan become even better.
“I would be very happy if Olivier Giroud joined AC Milan. We need players like him. He is a winner,” said Ibrahimovic, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on his Twitter account, @FabrizioRomano, Friday (4/6/2021).
The news that Giroud is being approached by Milan has indeed been very loud in recent weeks. Even so eager to join Milan, Giroud reportedly refused a contract extension that had been given by Chelsea.
Giroud is reportedly interested in trying other different competitions such as the Premier League and the answer he found in the Italian League with Milan. Now Milan only need to approach Giroud to discuss the salary issue.
For the problem of purchasing, Milan certainly does not need to spend a penny. Because Giroud’s contract with Chelsea will indeed expire on June 30, 2021. So, Milan will get Giroud for free.
Giroud’s determination to play at Milan can also be seen from his willingness to receive a salary that is less than what he got at Chelsea. As is known, at the Blues the 34-year-old player has been offered a contract of 4.2 million euros per year.
The nominal salary is the same as what Giroud currently gets at the South West London team. So, there is no salary reduction in Giroud’s new contract.
However, Giroud is still reluctant to accept a new contract from Chelsea. Giroud is more willing to have his salary reduced to 4 million euros per season as long as he can join AC Milan.
Stefano Pioli’s squad is also interested in signing Giroud because it wants to strengthen his team’s attack power next season. Especially considering that Milan will return to the Champions League, then Pioli wants his squad to be even stronger
