Alexander Zverev has insisted he will take part in the 2023 Hamburg European Open at Rothenbaum in Hamburg, German.
“Winning the tournament is a huge childhood dream of mine. I hope for the loud support of the audience and I’m sure that we will experience a wonderful week of tennis together.” Zverev said.
Zverev is currently ranked fourth in the world. Casper Ruud of Norway is the second big name announced for the 117th edition of the classic event.
The former number two in the world wants to fight his way back to the top after suffering a serious ankle injury last year.
Next, Zverev insisted to continue to get in shape for the French Open. The second Grand Slam tournament of the season begins on May 28th.
Zverev is starting his home tournament for the sixth time. In 2014 he reached the semi-finals at the age of 17 and went that far again five years later.
The Olympic champion now is making the next attempt to win the title in Hamburg.
“I’ve had a hard time dealing with the pressure of playing in Germany over the past few years. I’m incredibly nervous. I don’t show anywhere near the level in the match that I show in training,” Zverev said.
The 2023 Hamburg European Open welcomes 32 top singles players and 16 doubles teams to the summer clay-court event as one of the 13 ATP Tour 500 stops.
The tournament is held in the heart of Hamburg at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center, which features a retractable roof stadium.
The Italian tennis star Lorenzo Musetti captured his maiden title on the ATP Tour by winning the 2022 Hamburg European Open.
Musetti battled past fellow Next-Gen star and the tournament’s top seed Carlos Alcaraz of Spain 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4.
