No young driver has been better managed than Max Verstappen

No young driver has been better managed than Max Verstappen, says his father

Max Verstappen’s current contract was set to expire following this season, but in October 20, 2017, Red Bull Racing Team announced an extension. The Dutchman will continue driving with the team through the 2020 Formula 1 Championship.

Jos Verstappen on Sunday claimed that his son Max is the youngest-ever winner in F1 having debuted in the Grand Prix at the age 17 in 2015.

Max had almost signed for the Mercedes Junior Program three years ago. But, Red Bull had made the necessary to attract him by offering a driving license in F1 – at Toro Rosso

“It’s hard to imagine. But I do not think he could have raced in F1 in 2015. He could not have signed for a top team at that time.” Max’s father Verstappen said.

“For us, everything worked very well. He arrived in a high-tech team and has already won races, so he made the right choice.” Verstappen added.

Verstappen is a Dutch former racing driver.  He was the most successful F1 racing driver before retired and started mentoring his son to Formula 1.

The 46-year-old Dutchman currently works for Red Bull. He is in charge of identifying young talents in promotion formulas – young talents who are not his son.

“I don’t really have an official role. I must give two names that I think will be the talents of tomorrow. By chance, I went to see a Karting race in Italy two weeks ago. I keep an eye open and of course I have a lot of contacts in the world of Karting.” Verstappen said.

“I only have to call someone and I know exactly who to keep an eye on. Of course, it’s nice to work for Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari, but I do not see anyone being managed as I did with Max. Nobody really can, to be honest.

“You can run youth for teams, but that does not mean they will learn a lot. If you want to do it right, you have to work very hard every day. If you do, then the right driver will eventually stand out and you can coach him, model it as you please. You can transform it as it should be for his career. And no one is treated this way yet.” he added.

Max is very happy to commit further to Red Bull and he’s looking forward to working together to enjoy more success in this season.
