The transfer window tyrant, FFP, might be getting its wish because teams are afraid of breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. As Jacob Steinburg points out, there isn’t much gossip going around. Since this column enjoys a challenge, let’s give it a shot and get things moving once more, much like with a clogged blender.
Nobody can help us if Chelsea is unable to, but happily, the trolley-dash spenders are connected to a number of incomings and outgoings. The main subject of conjecture and misunderstanding is Viktor Gyökeres, the striker for Sporting.
Depending on that link or return page you visit, the Blues are either cooling their interest or are pushing hard to close a deal after having their first £73 million bid turned down. The 25-year-old Swede, who has scored 20 goals in 24 games this season, was previously signed by Brighton, so it would seem reasonable for Chelsea to pay outrageous fees for him.
Jhon Durán on loan from Aston Villa is one option available to Chelsea, although… Googles songs by Duran Duran in hopes of finding a pun, but fails. It doesn’t seem like the Midlanders will cooperate on that one.
However, those column inches won’t fill themselves, so certain sources chose to just throw some names out there (clever move, coughs awkwardly) by stating that Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly made offers to Saudi Pro League players Karim Benzema, Roberto Firmino, and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
What about the defense, then? Kyle Walker-Peters of Southampton may pique Chelsea’s interest again, even after the full-back’s poor tenure at Tottenham.
However, the news that center defender Levi Colwill may be moving to Liverpool won’t sit well with Blues supporters. The 20-year-old was linked to the Reds in the summertime, and they will be closely monitoring him should Chelsea need to make financial adjustments due to those bothersome profit and sustainability worries.
Staying with Liverpool, former Reds captain Jordan Henderson is on the verge of leaving the Saudi Pro League to join Ajax. Henderson apparently agreed with Al-Ettifaq to cancel his three-year deal and join Ajax. In other midfield news with a Liverpool flair, the Merseysiders are following Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmichafter the German champions confirmed they’re now willing to negotiate. Kimmich isn’t prepared to leave yet, so this is a summer move. Newcastle has also been linked.
