Fernando Alonso will begin his 2019 endurance season by participating in the Daytona 24 Hours in a Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R squad in January.
Wayne Taylor Racing is no stranger to running high-profile guest stars at Daytona, as NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon was part of its race winning 2017 line up alongside Jordan and Ricky.
On January 26 and 27, the 24 Hours of Daytona, which opens the season of the North American Endurance Championship, it will be the second consecutive Rolex for Alonso, who launched his endurance career last year on the same legendary circuit , mostly oval, a rehearsal just a few months from his historic coronation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“I am very happy. This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful racing cars in America and the world. I made my debut last year in endurance on this circuit. These left me hungry, after braking problems that broke the dreams of podium.” Alonso said.
“At the end I am McLaren driver also next year and the full priority is the Indy 500, so we need to accommodate a few things, it is not that I want to go on my own in all the decisions. I want to have the support from everyone.” Alonso added.
Alosno will be supported in 2019 at Daytona by Kamui Kobayashi, the Japanese being like the 37-year-old endurance driver at Toyota, but in the other car of the Japanese manufacturer at the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
