Novak Djokovic and Andy Murrey’s challenge in US Open Championship 2014

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murrey, for the 21st time in their professional careers played in the quarterfinals of US Open Championship. According to their previous games, this one was supposed to be a new tennis spectacle that would entertain the audience and the spectators in front of the court and even those that were watching on their television at home.

What was so great about this match?

The quarterfinals of US Open Championship was their 21st match so far and the sixth in the grand slams. Arthur Ashe was full with spectators and everyone expected a fair game between the two rivals who, in fact, had different ways to achieve the game in the quarterfinals.

Novak Djokovic in his route to the quarters won four matches and has left better impression than his opponent as he hasn’t lost a set and hasn’t played any tie-breaks so far and has beaten an Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman, Paul Henry Mathieu, American Sam Querrey and the German Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Andy Murrey was better than Robin Hass in the first round, and after that he has beaten the German Matthias Bachinger as well as the Russian Andrey Kuznetsov and after him Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Scottish tennis player in his way through the US Open Championship until the quarters has lost two sets and 58 games and has spent a total of 10 hours and 4 minutes on the court.

There was hardly any doubt that Novak and Murray were both ready to go to their limits in order to win, and maybe even further. The tennis match went as it has been expected by millions of tennis fans – exciting and marked by good and high-quality game, especially having in mind that Andy and Novak are good friends.

Novak Djokovic has won 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 and many of tennis fans do affirm that Andy Murray didn’t play at his maximum level. Some of them still believe that there is a lot of happy moments for Murray yet to come but the others are highly suspicious about the quality of his game which has “decreased magnificently” after having to undergo a surgery.

In the semi-finals of the tournament Djokovic will play against Kei Nishikori that is supposed to be a great opponent. Djokovic will have to be careful about Nishikori’s serve that is in fact fierce in the last matches, as we could experience it and see it by ourselves.
