Former world welterweight champion Amir Khan has changed his mind to retire from world professional boxing. He has been reported to call out his British fellow Kell Brook to fight.
Both boxers have been talks for a while but have failed to agree terms. But according to reports, Khan is now in talks to fight Brook early 2020.
“I think it’s a great idea, definitely. I think both of us will be fighting end of the year and then we see early next year that fight between me and Kell (Brook) can happen.” Khan said.
“We are both similar age, I think it’s a fight that we’ve been trying to make for a very long time and I think it’s getting very close to it now. It’s a fight that the public want, it’s a massive fight in Britain, so let make it happen.” Khan added.
Khan has decided to work with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn. He claimed still has two years contract left with the promoter and hopefully the fight with Brook can happen.
“I wanted people to see the real side of me and then I wanted to get back on the boxing scene with a bang. The only way to do that is with someone established. I’ve got two years left in me and want the best fights of my career.” Khan said.
“I’ve worked with Eddie Hearn for a couple of my previous fights and I think going back and working with him on this fight against Kell Brook will be massive. We are in talks with Eddie and Kell’s team so hopefully we can make that fight happen early next year.” he added.
Khan controversially lost via TKO to Terence Crawford in April after suffering a brutal low blow in the sixth round of their world WBO title fight. Brook, meanwhile, he beat Michael Zerafa on points in WBA final eliminator at Sheffield Arena in August 2018.
