Max Verstappen, Red Bull lead driver, is happy to have car which could brighten his chances of winning a Formula 1 World Championship Title for his team.
He truly believes that his car has enabled him to be a competitor in the world of Ferrari and Mercedes. Both teams have dominated the Formula 1 cascade for most of hybrid era.
In Brazil, Verstappen dominated through out the grand prix. He scored third victory for the team. The Honda power unit enabled him to supersede Mercedes’ driver more than twice to gain the top position.
Red Bull confirmed that the arrangements with Honda have been extended till 2021. Additional one year was added to the arrangements. Both parties will re-evaluate their arrangements beyond 2021 after the announcement of new regulations by Formula 1.
Verstappen answered to questions related to his chances of winning a championship. He was asked whether he had the required car, he said: “yes, I think we do, looking at the plans for next year.
“But of course, you say have to wait and see what the others come up with. Of course we want to fight for the title so we’re going to give it everything we have to be competitive from the start next year.”
Verstappen was also contented with the team’s decision to have switched from TAG Heuer-branded Renaults to Honda. This has provided a “very promising” season for him and the team.
“We had some some good results. For me, what was more important was also reliability. I think that has been very strong, throughout the whole year.
“Also the progression we made with the engine itself that has all been going really well. But we always want more, so we will never be satisfied with what we are doing.
“But it’s been good and I think it is a good basis for next year as well. I think we learned a lot throughout the whole year and I feel confident that we can have a positive start to next season.”
