Ecclestone: Wolff will join Aston Martin

Wolff Aston Martin Ecclestone

Toto Wolff, Mercedes Formula 1 Team Principal, might be considering a move to another team.

Bernie Ecclestone, Former Chief Executive of Formula 1 Group, claims that the Austrian will be moving to Aston Martin and the move will be very soon.

The Mercedes have been associated with rumours of distancing itself from F1 sport next year in order to cut off their expenses.

A board meeting of Daimler Group was reportedly scheduled to discuss the matter and decide the future course of action.

Wolff has been related to Lewis Hamilton and rumours suggested that both might move together. However, Stroll suggest that his friend Wolff might switch to Aston Martin.

Rumours suggested that Stroll and Wolff planned to buy current Formula 1 Mercedes team from its Daimler Group and rebrand it as Aston Martin.

The rumours died when Stroll bought shares in Aston Martin company without Toto Wolff. He increased his shares in the company and branded his old F1 team, Racing Point, with Aston Martin name. He announced the new brand to came into effect from 2021.

Despite the sport flooding with rumours, Wolff will be sticking to its current brand Mercedes for the year. And there are no signs of him moving to Aston Martin.

Wolff is also expected to announce his future plans beyond 2020.

Ecclestone Speculations

Ecclestone expressed his opinion on the matter and said: “Toto Wolff has become more friendly with Lawrence.

“He has the brains to pick the right people to be friends with, and I think we will more than likely see him join Lawrence at Aston Martin.

“Lawrence has some people with him and the group has bought control of the company, and I suppose Toto could jump in there as chief executive.

“It might work.”

Ecclestone spoke of Wolff joining the company but it doesn’t include the details whether he will be related to businesses dealing with Formula 1. He did not spoke of an exclusive role for Wolff at Aston Martin F1 team.

Reports suggested that Wolff have missed a critical meeting with F1 owner group, Liberty Media. He asked James Allison to represent him as Mercedes’ F1 team principal.
