The long-awaited fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will not take place on April 18, Even though the UFC still hopes to host its 249 meeting.
The UFC lightweight champion Khabib is indeed blocked in Daguestan, because of the confinement measures linked to the coronavirus pandemic.
In an Instagram post, the world champion addresses his fans, and also responds to Ferguson who accused him of hiding in Russia to avoid the fight.
“Staying home in quarantine and feeling the reaction of people to the situation around my fight, it turns out that the whole world should be in quarantine,” Khabib wrote.
“Governments of all countries, famous people around the world urge people to follow all safety requirements in order to limit the spread of the disease, to save people, and Khabib is the only one relieved of all obligations and must demonstrate free will train flying around the world, for the sake of the fight?
“I understand everything and I am even more upset than you are to cancel the fight, but I cannot control everything. The biggest countries and the biggest companies of our time are shaken by what is happening, every day the situation changes in unpredictable ways. But Khabib still has to fight, is that what you say? Take care of yourself and put yourself in my shoes.” Khabib added.
Indeed, people are waiting for the match up between Khabib and Feguson for real. We really think if Ferguson gets past his mental health problems which he has been working on for some time now with more effort.
Khabib uses brute strength and awkward striking but Ferguson is pretty comfortable with damage and he actually invites it fueling his game. With better striking, well place hits with stable pace could definitely tire out Khabib.
