Bayern Munich Fines Jeremy Boateng after Leaving the City without Permission

German champions Bayern Munich have fined Jerome Boateng after leaving the city without permission during the coronavirus outbreak.

However, Bayern did not specify the amount of the fine. The sum will be donated to Munich hospitals. They also did not disclose details of Boateng’s behaviour that led to the fine.

Bayern claimed they needed to take disciplinary action over Boateng despite having the right reasons. He had left the city to visit his sick son and was involved in a minor road accident on Tuesday, according to reports.

“Bayern defender Jerome Boateng left Munich yesterday without permission from the club. Boateng has transgressed the guidelines issued by the club by being too far away from his home.” Bayern said in a statement.

“These guidelines govern the behaviour of the FC Bayern players in the current situation in line with government directives on restrictions on movement and the recommendations of the health authorities.” they added.

The 31-year-old defender was involved in a crash after visiting his sick son. His car went off the road when he changed lanes after being overtaken by a sudden hail storm. No person was injured in the Boateng car crash, according to the local police.

“I accept all the punishments in the world, if they are justified. I know it was certainly a mistake not to inform the club of my journey,” Boateng said.

“But at the time, I was only thinking about my son. He was not in good health. If a son calls his father, then, of course, I will go, whatever the time of day.” Boateng added.

German Bundesliga had earlier decided to ban all its fixtures until the start of April fearing the coronavirus situation. However, Bundesliga plans to finish the season and has rubbished talks of canceling the campaign as of now.
