David de Gea faces a lot of criticism after mixed season in goals for Manchester United. The Spaniard remains calm and confident all the same.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper joined United in 2011 and has made 405 appearances so far. He extended a new deal with the Red Devils until June 2023.
During his time at Old Trafford, the Spaniard has won the Premier League, the League Cup, the FA Cup, the UEFA Cup League and the Community Shield Cup.
Speaking at his press conference, De Gea remains confident in his ability, despite overwhelming criticism questioning his No.1 spot with United.
“I trust myself. I showed my qualities all the years, so I just keep available for the manager. I’m always ready to play and try to help the team as always as I did always.” De Gea said.
United finished third in the Premier League, they are qualifying for the Champions League next season. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’ side have been knocked out the Europe League after Sevilla rallied to progress to the final on Sunday night.
“I think we improved this season. We were 14 points behind the third position in the Premier League but we finished third at the end.” De Gea said.
“We deserve to be in the final of the Europa League, if we are honest. But maybe we need a bit experience, more experience on the team.
“But we gave to score the chances. I think we are playing very good football, attacking football. Let’s keep improving, let’s keep fighting for this club and let’s try to win trophies next season.” De Gea added.
De Gea is under pressure from young English goalkeeper Dean Henderson, on loan Sheffield United, who has reportedly expressed to manager Solskjaer his desire to look elsewhere if he does not start in next season.
