Premier League results: Chelsea Silence Everton 2-0

Chelsea won 2-0 over Everton in the English Premier League at Stamford Bridge Stadium, Tuesday (9/3).

The Blues’ first goal came from a Godfrey suicide in the 31st minute, then Jorginho snatched a penalty midway through the second half to silence Everton’s resistance.

These results strengthen Chelsea’s position in fourth place in the standings and widen the distance to 4 points from Everton below.

The Blues appear aggressive in controlling the ball since kick off. Everton struggled to rise from the host’s pressure.

Absolute superiority in ball possession, Chelsea did not easily create opportunities. Thomas Tuchel’s men only got a big chance in the 16th minute when Jorginho fired a volley using a wild ball from Reece James’ pass which Mason Holgate tried to block.

Chelsea looked slack to form attacks so their passes could be read. However, Timo Werner and his friends performed quite well in recovering to reduce the Everton attack.

Score changed in the 31st minute. Marcos Alonso’s horizontal pass from the left was greeted by Kai Havertz’s kick. The ball hits Ben Godfrey, who tries to block it before settling into the Everton goal.

In the 40th minute Chelsea have a golden opportunity through Marcos Alonso who faces one on one with Jordan Pickford. Alonso’s final finish was readable by Pickford and only resulted in a corner.

Everton created the first shot on goal just before halftime through Andre Gomes’ shot from outside the penalty area which Edouard Mendy was able to dodge.

Chelsea pressed Everton back in the second half. Alonso’s free kick was the first threat Pickford faced between the sticks.

Kai Havertz found Everton’s goal in the 53rd minute, but the referee ruled it out for handball before firing a shot.

Callum Hudson-Odoi put Pickford’s skills to the test in the 60th minute with a long-range shot that the England goalkeeper could still deny.

The 65th minute Chelsea get a penalty after Pickford is considered to have violated Kai Havertz. Jorginho scored Chelsea’s second goal after his penalty was unpredictable by Pickford.

Pickford makes a double save in the 86th minute. After blocking the ball from Werner, Pickford tipped the ball away from N’Golo Kante.

A Mason Mount opportunity in the final minutes of injury time became Pickford’s last action to save Everton’s goal. Chelsea maintained the score 2-0 until the end of the match.

Thanks to this victory, Chelsea temporarily ranks fourth in the Premier League standings with 50 points from 28 matches.
