Michael Woods is returned to the 2021 Tour de France. The Canadian racing cyclist will play the leading role of the Israel Start-Up Nation team during the three-week Tour de France.
Woods lines up for a team which includes a four-time champion of the Big Loop, the Briton Chris Froome, and more than 20 stage victories.
“They’re a great team with a lot of experience with a guy like Chris who is well established and has won the Tour de France four times.” Woods said.
“We have Andre Greipel who won many stages. We have Dan Martin who also won in France. For me, it’s a great honor to be the leader of this team and to gain experience with these riders.
“For me, the main goal is to win a stage, I say that is the main objective because it will allow me to prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. But the overall ranking is also important. I think it’s possible to finish in the top 10 overall.” Woods said.
Woods added he has a little idea and he’s looking to go deep and follow attacks on the short steep climbs of the stage.
“There are a few stages where I’m able to be successful and even win. I hope I can win from the first days of the competition: the first two stages are more like ordinary classics.” Woods said.
“The second in particular is a stage a bit more like the Fleche Wallonne, where I finished third in 2020 and fourth this year. I think it’s possible to win this one.” he added.
The 2021 Tour de France has set off from Brest on Saturday June 26 to finish in Paris on Sunday July 18.
