Korean Fighter Sung Jung Dominates Dan Ige at UFC Fight Night

Korean fighter Sung Jun on Saturday defeated Dan Ige via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night in featherwight category. The judges scored it 49-8, 49-46, and 48-47, all for “The Korean Zombie” Jung.

Jung (17-6), ranked 4th contender in the featherweight category was trying to silence his critics and captured his place at the top of the pecking order tonight, but although he won without being too worried was not impressed either.

After a hotly contested first round, but probably a slight advantage to Jung for his take on the ground, he threw a solid hook to initiate the second.

Ige countred well and put a lot of pressure, and then he tried leads more than once. Rather, it was the Zombie, a cut to his left eye from an accidental head butt, that knocked him down.

A 2-0 lead, Jung returned to the ground. Ige spent the first few minutes of the third round on his back. He came close to loosening that grip, but Jung simply repositioned himself to do a rear choke, with a tight body triangle. Ige survived anyway and he had a comeback in the last two rounds, but it wasn’t enough to catch up.

Jung is 4-2 in the Octagon since returning in 2017 after being knocked out to Renato Moicano and Frankie Edgar in the first round. He was outnumbered by Brian Ortega in his most recent outing last October in a playoff fight for a title shot. This defeat has made many observers question whether Jung still belongs to the elite of the division.

After being defeated by Julio Arce in his UFC debut, Ige was six wins in a row before losing to Calvin Kattar. However, it had bounced back last March by passing the KO to Gavin Tucker after just 22 seconds.
