West Ham United won 4-1 over Leicester City in the second match of the Premier League at the London Stadium, Tuesday (24/8).
West Ham counter-attack in the 24th minute led to a 1-0 advantage. The goal started with Pablo Fornals’ breakthrough pass to Said Benrahma who opened up space on the left side of the attack.
Benrahma then released a cross which was met with a Fornals flick. The ball that moved to the far post could not be reached by goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
These advantages make The Hammers more confident. West Ham again put pressure on Leicester in the 29th minute.
This time it was Fornals’ turn to release a cross from the right. However, the bait that Tomas Soucek greeted with a header was still thinly sideways on the left side of Schmeichel’s goal.
Ayoze Perez’s kick in the 33rd minute maximized James Maddison’s heel pass which was also wide of the West Ham goal.
Leicester had to play with 10 men after Ayoze Perez was sent off for a foul in the 41st minute.
Superior in the number of players, David Moyes’s team tried to take advantage of it by continuing to press the Foxes defense.
Schmeichel made a brilliant save in the 52nd minute by parrying Michail Antonio’s header from Fornals’ cross.
In the 56th minute defender Caglar Soyuncu made a mistake. Soyuncu’s backpass to Kasper Schmeichel can be won by Michail Antonio.
Antonio also immediately passed the ball to Said Benrahma which was completed into a goal because the Leicester goal was no longer guarded by Schmeichel.
Although a two-goal deficit did not make Leicester lose the spirit of scoring a goal back. In the 70th minute Youri Tielemans reduced the position to 1-2.
Tielemans broke into Lukasz Fabianski’s goal after receiving feedback from James Maddison. Maddison’s pass was met with a shot against West Ham, but hit the opposing defender. The rebound fell again at Tielemans’ feet and was immediately completed as a goal.
The visitors’ loose defense was put to good use by the West Ham players. Midfielder Declan Rice is quite comfortable moving freely from the middle sector to the Leicester defense.
The England national team member then gave the ball to Michail Antonio who was already in the penalty box. Having found the right space, Antonio turned around and fired a shot that made it 3-1 for West Ham.
The London club was further away after winning 4-1 in the final minutes through the feet of Antonio. After receiving an assist from Vladimir Coufal, Antonio outwit a Leicester defender and then placed the ball on the bottom right side which was difficult for Schmeichel to reach. West Ham won 4-1 over Leicester.
