Evan Fournier Signs a Four-year Contract with New York Knicks

The New York Knicks on Tuesday have added more offensive fire power by signing  free agent Evan Fournier on a four-year $78 million contract.

The transfer had been revealed on August 3 by the American media, but had not yet been formalised by the New York franchise.

“We identified Evan as a key addition as we entered free agency and are ecstatic  that he’s joining us.” Knickc president Leon Rose said.

“He’s a great teammte, a fierce competitor, and  a perfect complement to our returning players. He wants to be a part of what we are bulding here, and we are happy to have him join our family.” Rose added.

Fournier will play next season at the legendary Madison Square Garden, which counted in his choice, as he revealed during the presentation press conference.

“I have always loved playing ‘MSG’, the atmosphere and the energy in this room is different, so being able to play 41 matches here, with the fans … I can’t wait!” Fournier said.

Fournier, who averaged 171.1 points and shot 41.3 percent from 3-point range, has starred for France in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, leading them to an upset over team USA last week.

The 2012 Denver Nuggets-drafted full-back spent six and a half seasons with the Orlando Magic, most of his time in the NBA. He is joining an ambitious franchise, having returned to the limelight last year, finishing the season in 4th place in the Eastern Conference.

“It was very hard playing against the Knicks last season, they were very disciplined. They had real cohesion, and it showed during the season, where they improved, as a player it’s exciting because you want to play in a team that works well and wins.” Fournier said.

Thanks in particular to the emergence of strong winger Julius Randle, the Knicks reached the play-offs for the first time since 2013.
