Premier League: Liverpool beat Leeds United 3-0, Salah scores 100th goal

Liverpool managed to beat Leeds United with a score of 3-0 in the English Premier League match, Sunday (12/9).

As reported by Reuters, Liverpool striker, Mohamed Salah, scored one goal in that match. It was the 100th goal scored by Salah while playing in the Premier League.

Salah’s goal against Leeds came in the 20th minute after receiving a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool led 1-0 until the first half was over.

In the second half Liverpool midfielder, Fabinho, increased the advantage to 2-0 in the 50′ minute.

Then 10 minutes later there was an incident in which Leeds centre-back Pascal Struijk made a tackle which left Harvey Elliot injured and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher. As a result of the tackle, the referee gave a red card to Struijk.

Leeds then played with only 10 players until the end. Sadio Mane’s kick tore through Leeds’ goal in the 90+2′ minute to lock Liverpool’s win.

With this victory, Liverpool moved Manchester City from the third position in the Premier League standings. The first and second positions are currently occupied by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said midfielder Harvey Elliott’s injury against Leeds United was severe and he would have to undergo a series of tests to see the extent of the injury.

“It’s good that he (Elliott) can post on Instagram after the game and show he’s not in too much pain anymore,” Klopp said.

“His ankle is not in the right position. It was very important it happened very quickly, but I can’t say anything else. The injury is heavy, so we will wait for the scans and evaluation,” said Klopp.

Elliott had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher due to a tough tackle by Leeds defender Pascal Struijk. Because of the tackle the referee gave a red card to Struijk and made Leeds play with only 10 men until the end.

On the other hand, Klopp is still reluctant to talk about Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League trophy again like in the 2019-2020 season.

“I’m not interested in the form when we won the title, I’m interested in the current conditions. We played very well today, if we don’t play well then we will be bothered by Leeds,” said Klopp.

“We pressed very well, and therefore we were able to control the ball. It is still far from perfect, we have to open up more opportunities. However, that was not the problem today. There is still time to improve,” said Klopp.
