Stefanos Tsitsipas The world number 4 is looking to take an extra step in his career next season after a scintillating 2021 season.

Speaking to the press ahead of the ATP Finals, Tsitsipas admitted, “This season has been really awesome. I started the season with the intention of eating better, sleeping better, and putting my body on a better schedule. It’s all for the sake of my tennis.”

“I’ve achieved a lot of goals in pursuit of a better career this season and I’m happy where I’m going, but I’ve also had a lot of setbacks this season. Some things have become too much, a lot of travel, and the pandemic is affecting some decisions.”

“Overall, I’m happy where I am, I want to take that extra step and aim for even higher things next season. It requires a fresh and new purpose. I’m also trying to be more professional.”

In the 2021 season, the Greek won the Masters 1000 title for the first time in his career in Monte Carlo (lost to Andrey Rublev) and made his first Grand Slam final at the French Open (lost to Novak Djokovic).

In the Green Group with Novak Djokovic, Rublev and Casper Ruud, the 2019 ATP Finals champion is recovering from a shoulder injury that hindered his progress at the Paris Masters last week.

“In Paris, the pain was unbearable,” said Tsitsipas. “I had to stop in the middle of the game. It hurts me a lot to disappoint the audience, but I have to do it for my health.”

“The last few days I’ve been training feeling a little sore, but it was less than five or six days ago when I started playing again. I did everything possible to recover from that injury.”

Starting the first match of the ATP Finals group phase which this season was held at the Pala Alpitour, Turin, Stefanos Tsitsipas will again face Russian tennis player Rublev. To date, the Greeks have been leading their head to head 4-3. This season they have met twice with Rublev winning their encounter in Rotterdam and the Greek battling it out in Monte Carlo.
