Indonesia Open Results: Ginting Loses to Axelsen

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting lost to Viktor Axelsen in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Friday (17/6).

Ginting’s start is quite good at the start of the first game. The 25-year-old led 4-0. Axelsen had approached, but Ginting back away.

When Ginting won the sixth point, Axelsen locked the points for the Indonesian mainstay of the men’s singles. Ginting was left behind.

Axelsen then saved the lead. Ginting, who tried to get back up, trailed 9-11 at the interval of the first game.

After the break, Axelsen continued to score points and moved away from Ginting. The world number one player then ensured victory. Ginting lost 13-21 in the first game.

Entering the second game, Ginting started again by leading the score. Axelsen then performs attacks that make it difficult for Ginting. The score was reversed.

Ginting turned in a left position. Ginting’s mistakes also benefit Axelsen. The player from the SGS Bandung team kept trying to press Axelsen and tried to keep his distance.

After falling behind 8-11 in the second game interval, Ginting continued to try to add points through patient play. Ginting leveled it at 11-11 and then took the lead.

Ginting’s tactical attacks made it difficult for Axelsen. Ginting posted a three-point advantage. From 15-12, Ginting maintained the lead to 19-16.

Facing Axelsen who didn’t give up, Ginting also showed unflagging enthusiasm to secure the second game with a 21-19 victory.

Unlike the first and second games, Axelsen immediately shot in the third game and left Ginting 0-6 behind. Axelsen’s hitting accuracy coupled with Ginting’s unforced error made the Danish badminton dominant.

Axelsen can maintain a margin of five to six points. Even Ginting trailed 3-11 in the third game interval from last week’s Indonesia Masters champion.

Axelsen put on a classy game after the break which left Ginting struggling to reach the shuttlecock.

Ginting could add points, but Axelsen also won points that led him to victory. Ginting failed to reach the semifinals after losing 9-21 to Axelsen.
