Manchester United continues to look for new players in the summer of 2022. Brazilian winger Antony is one of the players who are reportedly targeted by the Red Devils. The news of Antony’s transfer to Man United itself has been buzzing for quite a long time. Moreover, when Erik ten Hag was appointed as the new coach of the Red Devils, Man United’s hunt for the Ajax Amsterdam player is one step closer.
Progress is said to have emerged after one of Antony’s representatives arrived in Manchester for talks on Friday (22/07/22) local time. Reporting from The Times, Man United must at least be willing to spend 68 million pounds to redeem Antony from Ajax. Erik ten Hag himself is reportedly eager to reunite with his former protégé. The agile Brazilian player is deemed able to play his role so well in the Ten Hag concoction scheme.
Last season, Antony recorded 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s Ajax in all competitions. Man United’s efforts to get Anthony will not be easy. Ajax’s sporting director, Gerry Hamstra, admitted that he wanted to maintain a number of team pillars that were being targeted by many other clubs.
“No one is leaving now. We have made that clear to the players. We have had in-depth talks with players who have a strong desire to leave the club at this time,” said Gerry Hamstra.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Man United are also interested in signing Memphis Depay. Ten Hag is reportedly looking to sign a versatile striker. Depay is considered one of the players who have that attribute. If you look at the situation at Barcelona, Depay could indeed be released to help the financial situation of the Catalan camp.
Depay is not a foreign name at Man United. Previously, the Dutch player had a career at Old Trafford in the period July 2015-January 2017. At that time, the player wore the legendary Red Devils number 7. However, he was unable to shine and was released in the Jose Mourinho era.
After leaving Man United, Depay showed his sharpness at Olympique Lyon and Barcelona. In the transfer market this summer, two new players have been brought in by the Red Devils, namely Tyrell Malacia (Feyenoord) and Christian Eriksen (free transfer). One other player who will soon join is Lisandro Martinez after the Red Devils announced a deal with Ajax for the transfer of the Argentine defender.
