The relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes is heating up following his move to club Al Nassr.
Jorge Mendes has been Ronaldo’s agent throughout his illustrious career, but Ronaldo’s frustration stems from a lack of options when seeking transfers in last summer’s transfer window.
After Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League, Jorge Mendes conducted negotiations with a number of clubs including Chelsea, Atletico and Sporting, but concrete offers from the club failed to materialize.
Sources have told ESPN that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was interested in signing Ronaldo, but then head coach Thomas Tuchel rejected the idea.
Although a move to Saudi Arabia was a possibility during the summer transfer window, Ronaldo nevertheless opted to stay at Manchester United in the hope that his luck will improve or that his 2022 World Cup appearance in Qatar will tempt European clubs to bid for him.
However, Ronaldo was sidelined by Erik ten Hag and his contract was finally terminated by mutual consent at the end of November following his interview with Piers Morgan.
At the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Ronaldo was also benched by Fernando Santos for both of their knockout matches at the World Cup.
Despite Ronaldo becoming a free agent, Jorge Mendes was once again unable to generate any concrete interest from the big club capable of giving Ronaldo the chance to win a sixth Ballon d’Or or sixth Champions League trophy.
Sources say that Ronaldo’s personal manager for nearly 20 years, Ricardo Regufe, was heavily involved in negotiations to sign a contract with Al Nassr.
One source also stated that no official agent was involved in Ronaldo’s deal with Al Nassr, following speculation that the relationship between Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes will end soon.
