Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was happy with the 2-2 draw his team obtained when they visited Bayern Munich’s headquarters in the first leg of the 2023-2024 Champions League semi finals. The reason is that a draw is the best result that Los Blancos can achieve considering that their team almost lost 1-2 at the Allianz Arena, on Wednesday (1/5/2024).
Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Madrid almost lost and clearly he did not want his team to suffer a bad result in the first leg match. Even though Madrid initially took the lead through Vinicius Junior’s goal in the 24th minute, Bayern Munich responded and even went ahead thanks to goals scored by Leroy Sane (53′) and Harry Kane (57′).
When the match entered the 80th minute, the score still did not change. However, Rodrygo Goes was fouled in the penalty box by Kim Min-jae and Vinicius, who executed the penalty kick, made it 2-2 in the 83rd minute and the score remained until the match ended.
After the match, Ancelotti praised the fighting spirit of Madrid players. He is happy that the players are committed to continuing to catch up.
“His commitment was extraordinary, especially at the end of the match to try to equalize,” said Carlo Ancelotti as quoted from the Real Madrid website, Wednesday (1/5/2024).
The former AC Milan coach also admitted that Bayern Munich played better than his team throughout the match. Because, Real Madrid faced quite stiff resistance from the home team.
“Bayern Munich showed their best and we only did it in part of the match,” continued Ancelotti.
Carlo Ancelotti said the draw would definitely be valuable for Luka Modric and his colleagues to face the second leg later. The reason is that this draw will increase the confidence of Real Madrid players in the follow-up match against Bayern Munich later.
“This is a good result and gives us confidence going into the second leg,” he said.
Real Madrid and Bayern will face each other again in the second leg of the 2023-2024 Champions League semifinals. This time the match will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, on May 9 2024.
