Josh Hart has admitted that he does not know what his role is with the New York Knicks.
The forward’s doubts are attributable to his current preseason performance. Even though he is a starter, he has made only two points in five games for the team.
Therefore he as gone further into thinking of going to the bench to attempt to get his footing back before the beginning of the 2024/25 NBA season.
“I’m at a loss. I have no idea. We have a few days until the Boston Celtics game,” Hart said.
“So whether it’s trying to get a rhythm with the starting five or giving someone else a chance to change my role, right now I’m trying to figure it out.
“I have no idea. But we’ll see what happens against the Celtics in the season opener,” he added.
Last season, Josh Hart was very useful for the Knicks, especially in the playoffs.s. In his last campaign, he was playing 42.2 minutes in 13 games, 14.5 points and 4.5 assists, but 11.5 rebounds.
However, he became one of the key players on the list both in terms of what Thibodeau was expecting from him and of the fans preference.
It could be seen from preseason and it was clear that defence was going to be the major focus of the team. During the 90 minutes he spent in the floor he only attempted six shots and made two baskets.
What if he is only considered a backup, then he looks forward to taking up a leadership position that goes to the likes of Miles McBride or Precious Achiuwa.
“[Brunson] and [Towns]are our engine. I think we played well in preseason. So I’m comfortable with that.” Hart said.
“I just think we can find a way to be our best, whatever the role or minutes are,” he added.
Hart’s problem, by the way, revealed the prospects of the Knicks. With such talent, the team is, certainly, one of the contenders for the NBA title in 2024/25.
For instance, in the Eastern Conference, the expectation is that the team will be the biggest thorn in the flesh of the Boston Celtics, the reigning league champions.
