Aaron Ramsey joins Juventus on four-year deal

Aaron Ramsey joins Juventus on four-year deal

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will join Juventus on a free transfer in the summer, after signing a four-year deal (2023) with the Italian Serie A champion.

According to reports, Ramsey agreed a pre-contract deal to join on July 1 when his contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 season at Emirates. The 28-year-old midfielder will earn €400,000 per week.

The Welshman will reportedly become Bianconeri’s second-highest earner behind former Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo, earning €7 million a season.

“As a result of the registration of the player, Juventus will incur additional costs of €3.7 million, to be paid by July 10,” Juventus said.

Ramsey left Cardiff City in the summer of 2008, when he signed with Arsenal for £4.8 million. He has played in 252 Premier League games, scored 52 goals, and won 3 FA Cup championships.  He will become the third Welshman to play for Juventus, following in the footsteps of Ian Rush – who spent just one season in Italy, and John Charles.

“As you may have already heard, I have agreed a pre-contract with Juventus Football Club.” Ramsey posted on his social media.

“I wanted to issue a personal statement for all the Arsenal fans who have been extremely loyal and supportive. You welcomed me as a teenager and have been there for me through all the highs and lows I’ve encountered during my time at the club. It is with a heavy heart that I leave after 11 incredible years in North London. Thank you.

“I will continue to give the team 100% and hope to finish the season strongly, before heading on to my next chapter in Turin.” Ramsey added.

Ramsey was very close to renewing his contract with Arsenal. According to reports, the two sides had already reached an agreement, but the Gunners decided to withdraw the contract offer that was previously on the table for Ramsey.

“Everyone at Arsenal Football Club wishes Aaron Ramsey a happy and successful future. Aaron’s made a fantastic contribution to our club since joining from Cardiff City in 2008. He has always been a consummate professional, and will always have a special place in the hearts and memories of arsenal fans around the world.” Arsenal said.
