Adil Rashid set for red-ball Yorkshire deal

Adil Rashid set for red-ball Yorkshire deal

Adil Rashid is close to agreeing a new contract with Yorkshire which will include him returning to play red-ball cricket for the county, Sky Sports News understands.

Rashid re-negotiated his club contract at the start of the year so that he was only involved in one-day formats. Despite that, he was then controversially called up by England to play in the Test series against India.

That led to criticism from some ex-cricketers, including former England captain Michael Vaughan, who said it was “ridiculous”.

The ECB have informed Rashid that his Test call-up will not happen again, unless he starts playing longer format cricket again for his county.

His Yorkshire contract only runs until the end of this season, and after a public falling out with Yorkshire, Rashid said he felt mistreated and had to consider where his future lay.

But now it looks almost inevitable that the 30-year old leg spinner will not only sign a new long-term deal to stay at Headingley, but that he will also become a red-ball regular again, for both club and country.
