Manchester United have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount, sources have told ESPN.
Manchester United will pay an initial £55m ($69.4m) with an additional £5m ($6.3m).
Sources have told ESPN the bonus is because Chelsea are “a lot reliant” on Mount’s performances and success at Old Trafford.
The sources add that, with Mount currently on holiday, his medical with United will be carried out next week.
The two clubs have reached an agreement after Chelsea initially demanded £70 million for the England international.
The Red Devils have seen bids of £40m, £50m and £55m rejected by Chelsea.
Mason Mount is about to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and negotiations for a new deal have fallen through.
Had he stayed at Chelsea he could leave as a free agent next summer.
He will become coach Erik ten Hag’s first new signing this summer.
Mason Mount leaves Chelsea after making 195 appearances for his boyhood club. He was part of the team that won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel in 2021.
Actually Mason Mount really wants to stay at Chelsea. But unfortunately he did not get special treatment. The 24-year-old player felt that Chelsea were too protracted in giving him a new contract, until it was nearing the end of his term. The previous contract was signed in 2019.
Chelsea are said to want to give Mount a new contract after winning the Champions League.
However, it was claimed that the Blues did not want to rush because the player’s contract was still long at that time.
In the 2022/2023 season, the situation then changed when Chelsea was penalized and had to change owners.
