Indonesian men’s doubles Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan revealed the cause of the defeat in the badminton semifinals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Friday (30/7).
Ahsan/Hendra failed to realize their ambition of winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics after losing two straight games to the Taiwanese pair, Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin, 11-21, 10-21.
The second seed at the Tokyo Olympics had difficulty showing the best quality because Lee/Wang appeared more impressive.
“Today we didn’t perform well because our opponent was very strong, and put a lot of pressure on us,” Ahsan said after the match, quoted from the official BWF website.
“We can’t get out of that pressure,” Ahsan added.
Hendra Setiawan made a similar comment. Even though Ahsan/Hendra tried their best to bring out their qualities, still Lee/Wang dominated the game.
“I tried to do my best, but as seen, our opponent played very well today. So I can’t escape the pressure,” said Hendra.
The defeat in the semifinals left Ahsan/Hendra with one last match, namely the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
In the bronze medal match which was held on Saturday (31/7), Ahsan/Hendra will face Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia.
