All England 2023: Tai Tzu Ying Chases the Record of the 21st Century

Taiwan’s number one woman’s singles badminton player, Tai Tzu Ying, feels no pressure ahead of the All England 2023. The world number three player is relaxed looking at the Super 1000 level tournament.

All England 2023 is just a few days away. The reason is, the oldest tournament in the world starts rolling this week, March 14-19 to be precise at the Birmingham Arena, Birmingham, England. Tai Tzu Ying is one of the most successful women’s singles at the All England in the 21st century. She has won three titles in 2017, 2018 and 2020. Her achievement equaled the achievements of the former world number one player from China who is also the wife of Chinese badminton legend Lin Dan, Xie Xingfang (2005, 2006, 2007).

Thus, one more title will make Tai Tzu Ying the most successful women’s singles player at the All England in the 21st century. However, currently Tai Tzu Ying’s performance began to decline. This has made her less and less on the main podium in a number of tournaments she has participated in recently.

Even so, Tai Tzu Ying did not feel pressured to face the All England 2023. She remained relaxed during training before leaving for Birmingham. “Playing happily, counting the days to go abroad. Always be enthusiastic for yourself,” Tai Tzu Ying uploaded on his personal Instagram.

Tai Tzu Ying’s journey to hunt for a fourth All England title will be steep. The third seed met the world number 21 player from South Korea, Kim Ga Eun. If she passes the hurdles in the first round and qualify for the last 16, Tai Tzu Ying will meet the world number 33 player from Japan, Aya Ohori, or the world number 12 player from Thailand, Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

Then, Tai Tzu Ying will meet a more difficult opponent, He Bingjiao (China) or PV Sindhu (India) if they penetrate the quarter-finals. After that, Carolina Marin (Spain) or An Se Young (South Korea) will be her opponent in the semifinals.

Until now, the most successful women’s players in the history of All England are Judy Devlin (United States) and Meriel Lucas (England). Devlin won a total of 10 women’s singles titles and a seven-time women’s doubles title (from 1954 to 1967). Meanwhile Lucas won a total of 6 women’s singles and 10 women’s doubles and 1 mixed doubles (from 1899 to 1910).
