Alvarez: “The power of GGG is respectable”

Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) has revealed he plans on ending his eagerly-anticipated middleweight rematch with Kazakh Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) in emphatic style.

But the Mexican boxer does not just consider the power of devastating strikes which made Golovkin also a boxer feared by his opponents on the world stage, something that has not already experienced before their much anticipated rematch at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, on September 15.

Alvarez, probably was not endangered during their 12-round bout, there is this 11 months, so it is not said to be no concerned about the power of GGG as they approach their rematch.

“Obviously he is a very strong fighter. He has a lot of hitting power when he hits the target. This is a very big advantage for a fighter. He has power in his hands.” Alvarez said.

“But of course, I’ve already faced other strong hitters in the past. And despite the fact that he is a natural 160 lbs with respectable power, his punching power does not exceed the limit of the possible.

“I showed in the first fight that I can take his punches. He’s a respectable puncher, with respectable power, but it’s not like it’s unheard of.” Alvarez added.

Golovkin, meanwhile, lined up 23 knockouts before his duel against Danny Jacobs who reached the 12-round limit in March 2017.

The 36-year-old boxer, who won his fight against Jacobs by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden, later faced Alvarez, a duel that required the verdict of the judges.

For their first match, Dave Moretti judge handed a 115-113 card for Golovkin, Adelaide Byrd 118-110 judge Alvarez, and the 3rd judge Don Trella 114-114.

However, Alvarez admitted that Golovkin’s power has not affected him in any way, but conversely he says he’s convinced he’s hurt to the opponent.

“The first fight gave me the guideline to know what I have to do in the second fight. I know what I have to do differently,” Alvarez said.

“In the first fight, I did a lot of things. I realized that I can pass him the knockout. I learned that I can hurt him. There are many things I learned in this fight.

“But also in this first fight, it was officially my very first in the 160 lbs, the weight limit of 160 lbs. So I had to adapt myself. But now, I’m even sure of myself and I’m more confident about what I can do in the rematch.” former WBA unified champion added.

Alvarez tested positive for clenbuterol in February and was handed a six-month suspension for the infringement.
