Andy Murray hopes to return for Wimbledon after recovering from his injury

Andy Murray on Monday reportedly has undergone a right hip surgery and hopes to return to the game in time for the Wimbledon tournament.

Former world number three and triple Grand Slam champion has not played a competitive game since appearing in the quarter-finals against Sam Querrey at Wimbledon last July.

Speaking to English media, Murray told that he looks forward to returning to the competition during this season after recovering from his injury.

“I successfully underwent right hip surgery at St Vincent Hospital in Melbourne. I want to thank Dr. John O’Donnell and all the staff members for taking charge of me. I look forward to returning to the competition during the grass court season. I will recover.” Murray said.

“I went in at 7.30am and I woke up from the operation about 10.30am. I’m very optimistic because, having spoken to the surgeon, he [Dr, John O’Donnell] was very happy about how it went. He felt my hip will be feeling better than it did a year ago. I was still doing fine a year ago, ranked number 1 in the world.

“My plan is to be back playing around the grass court season, potentially before then. I’m going to take my time to make sure that the rehab is done properly, and make sure that the surgery is as successfully as it can be.

“I’ve been quoted times for how long it’s taken for players to get back from the surgery I’ve had, and up to 14 weeks is what I’ve been given.” Murray added.

The 30-year-old tennis player said that he did not think he would to join the Australian Open this month, and said he plans to reduce his tournaments during this year.

“I’m certainly not going to play so many tournaments and put so much effort into trying to reach the top spot in the world.” Murray said.

“I will certainly have a more thoughtful approach to the number of tournaments I will play, although I still have a rather conservative program compared to most players on the circuit.

“I’m going to play a limited number of tournaments and focus more on trying to win major events and major tournaments than trying to achieve certain goals in the standings. I think it’s enough to compete at the highest level.” he added.
