Antonio Conte has reportedly agreed to coach AC Milan to replace Stefano Pioli starting next season. The former Tottenham Hotspur coach is said to have rejected an offer from Napoli, who were first interested in proposing to him.
It should be noted that Antonio Conte is currently unemployed, aka without a club, after terminating his contract with Tottenham Hotspur by mutual agreement in March 2023. Recently, the 54-year-old man was targeted by the Partenopei – Napoli’s nickname.
However, according to the Italian Football report, Conte rejected an approach from Napoli in October 2023 because he wanted to take time out. The Italian coach has also taken a long leave this season to be with his family.
Recently, TeleLombardia reported that Conte had accepted the terms offered by AC Milan. He is also said to be the new coach of the Rossonerri – AC Milan’s nickname – next season to replace Stefano Pioli.
“TeleLombardia claims that Antonio Conte has accepted the terms offered by Milan and will become their coach next season,” read the TeleLombardia report, quoted on Tuesday (30/1/2024).
Still according to the same source, there are many reports that the Rossoneri are interested in getting Conte’s services. In fact, he reportedly spoke directly with the club’s senior advisor, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Then according to transfer expert Luca Momblano, he claimed that Antonio Conte had agreed to the proposal from the owner of the Red Bird club and would take over the role starting next season to replace Pioli.
Meanwhile, Pioli’s contract with AC Milan itself will only end on June 30 2025. However, Rossonerri club officials want to terminate his contract after Rafael Leao et al’s performance in the hands of the bald-headed coach was not good.
If Conte joins AC Milan, this would be a return to the San Siro for the Italian, who won the Scudetto with Inter in 2021. Previously, he was a Juventus icon both as a player and coach, before leaving the Turin giants to lead Italy for two years.
