Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the London derby as they secured three crucial points and reclaimed the top of the Premier League table on Sunday. Thanks to a goal from midfielder Gabriel Magalhaes.
The London derby at Stamford Bridge was tense and was decided by the only goal coming from a corner.
Chelsea’s defence came to a halt when William Saliba flew to head but missed. The ball bounced off several players and even goalkeeper Edouard Mendy before landing in Gabriel’s path, allowing him to easily cushion into an empty net.
That is one of Arsenal’s two shots on target this match while Chelsea only have one. However, this shows that both teams try to play tactfully, and Arsenal is the team that focus on the hosts’ mistakes the best.
Arsenal midfilder Granit Xhaka admitted he was exhausted after an intense end to Arsenal’s match against Chelsea.
“You see the atmosphere, it’s very unbelievable, sorry. You see the atmosphere, it’s unbelievable. We deserved to win today, we were much, much, much the better team. We are doing what the coaches tell us, and these are the results.” Xhaka said.
“After the season nobody asks you how you win in November, December or January. You are just trying to get a lot of points, and let’s see where we end up.” Xhaka added.
The derby result on Sunday helped Arsenal’s extend their winning streak in all competitions to four matches.
Arsenal have gone 13 consecutive matches without losing. After losing to Manchester United on September 4, they have won three consecutive matches against the Big 6 teams, before Tottenham and Liverpool.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have had a mixed start to the season. Graham Potter is still trying to work out his best starting XI despite taking over from Thomas Tuchel two months ago.
