Atlético Madrid’s style of playing against Manchester City in the 2021-2022 Champions League quarter-final second leg drew a lot of criticism. However, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone did not care about the criticism.
He was actually proud of himself. Because, Simeone thinks that his team has a characteristic playing style that attracts a lot of attention.
Yes, as is known, Atletico Madrid has just been eliminated in the 2021-2022 Champions League. They fell from Manchester City 0-1 on aggregate. The match which took place at the Wanda Metropolitano, Madrid on Thursday (14/2/2022) this morning was indeed tough.
No doubt many football fans criticised the match. Especially Atletico Madrid’s way of playing which is considered very rude.
After the game, Diego Simeone responded to the criticism. The Argentinean coach didn’t really care much about the criticism. According to him, such a characteristic is its own way for his troops to enjoy the game.
“I’m proud of what Atletico have. Competing, we have our own way, maybe good, bad or we don’t like it, but we compete. Those players and this have achieved it,” said Diego Simeone, quoted from Diario AS, Thursday (14/4/2022).
“We’re defending ours. Playing maybe the best team in the world and realising that we can compete really well doesn’t make me alone or happy, because we didn’t win and I feel like a mess.
Despite the heat of the match, Manchester City still has the right to reach the semifinals. Later, The Citizens (Manchester City’s nickname) will face Real Madrid. The 2021-2022 Champions League semi final first leg itself will take place on 27 April 2022.
