Barbora Krejcikova Claims Two Successive Titles Withdraw From Cluj-Napoca

Barbora Krejcikova after winning two tournaments in a row in Tallinn and Ostrava, decided to withdraw from the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

The decision was taken after the Czech tennis player suffered a wrist injury.

“Unfortunately, Barbora Krejcikova had to withdraw from the tournament due to a left wrist injury. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Barbora!” wrote the organizers of the Transylvania Open on Monday (10/10) local time.

The 2021 French Open champion showed disappointment after he desperately wanted to be a part of the tournament.

“Unfortunately, after playing so many games in the last two weeks, my wrist injury didn’t allow me to play at Cluj-Napoca. I feel very disappointed because I was really looking forward to playing that tournament,” admits Barbora Krejcikova.

Krejcikova’s place at the Transylvania Open will be replaced by ninth seed Lucia Bronzetti. Meanwhile, French lucky loser Oceane Dodin will replace Bronzetti and will face British tennis player Harriet Dart.

Similar to Krejcikova, although she desperately wanted to play in front of an audience in Romania, Briton Emma Raducanu was unable to play at the WTA level 250 tournament due to a recent wrist injury.

“Unfortunately, Emma Raducanu will not play this edition of the Transylvania Open due to a wrist injury. We received this information recently. We know a lot of fans want to see it on the pitch and we want to offer them that experience,” said Patrick Ciorcila, tournament director at Cluj-Napoca.

“But tennis is an unpredictable sport and in such a situation, the only solution is recovery. We wish Emma all the best and get back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

According to Ciorcila, Raducanu returned to London to undergo an MRI.

“The night before, I received this information from him. I also spoke to his agent, he had a tournament in Ostrava and had a wrist injury which forced him to end the season early. Initially he planned to play in Cluj-Napoca, he will also go to Guadalajara. But he returned to London for an MRI. Unfortunately, we have no way of fighting that. It is related to the health of the athletes and we can only wish them the best,” explained Ciorcila.

“We are very sorry that he will not be here, he is a center of attention for Cluj-Napoca and the Romanian public.”
