Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently eloquently announced the possibility of Barcelona’s mega transfer, despite the Catalan team still carrying a huge debt of more than 1 billion euros.
Laporta sent out a warning shot when asked about any interest in Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund during the press conference at Camp Nou.
“Everybody in the world should get ready, as we are back as big players in the market. Barca are back,” Laporta said.
“Anything is possible about the possibility of Haaland. We are working to build a strong team for next season. The first step is to bring in the quality player that Xavi wants Ferran.
“For the rest, we’re always doing market research. Barca will continue to be the global brand for top players to join.” Laporta added.
Barcelona managed to splash out 60 million euros on Ferran Torres from Man City. Laporta admitted there’s a reason to spend a big money to buy Torres in this January.
“We are building a team of talented young players with a great future. I am sure that with players like Ferran Torres we will be much stronger. The signing of Ferran Torres is truly spectacular.” Laporta said.
Laporta needed to be careful with hos statements despite his confident statement. Currently, the Nou Camp home team has not been able to add Torres’ name to the list of registrations for the upcoming period because of financial fair play. They will have to sell a few players in the winter break.
On the other hand, Laporta himself also said Barca’s very worrying debt is at 1.35 billion euros. This debt has increased by 200 million euros from January to August 2021. Due of this, some of the team’s players like Pique or Alba had to reduce their salaries so that the club could register new players in the summer of 2021.
