WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders does not believe Daniel Jacobs will be able to win a decision victory in his twelve-round bout against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Jacobs (35-2-0, 29 KOs) and Canelo (51-1-2, 35 KOs) will clash in a unifying duel, May 4; a shock whose stakes will be the WBC, WBA, IBF middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Saunders has a lot of respect for Jacobs and he believes the New York native boxer has all the qualities needed to win, but he does not see Canelo losing by decision in Vegas.
Jacobs put his career back on track after losing a tight 12-round bout to Kazakh boxer Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, who was the unified champion, in March 2017. Since that failed, Jacobs has lined up three wins ; all registered against undefeated boxers.
“I’m happy for Jacobs because he had to go through a lot of things in his personal life. He will receive a big paycheck.” Saunders said.
“And maybe he can beat Canelo, but he’s never going to get a decision in his favor. He’s never going to get a decision unless he knocks it off for a minute or two. Canelo is the only guy they tried to steal with Floyd Mayweather … it was a majority decision,” Saunders added.

Canelo, the unified middleweight champion, successfully moved up to 168 pounds in this one-off attraction and brutalized Rocky Fielding en route to a third-round TKO to claim the WBA “regular” super middleweight title on December 16.
Jacobs, meanwhile, beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko by spilt decision for a vacant 160-pound title last October at Madison Square Garden.
“I’m really sorry for him because he really has the tools to beat Canelo, but will he do it? I doubt it because of boxing politics. Sometimes fighting is not done because of that. I wish him all the best and hope he does the work.” Saunders said.
